Indoor tanning

At Arizona Tanning, our professional indoor tanning units have been carefully chosen to stay up-to-date with the latest in tanning innovations while keeping both beginner and experienced tanners in mind. With five different UV Tanning systems (and a total of nine units in our salon), we're guaranteed to have a tanning bed for all of your indoor tanning needs.

Our UV tanning equipment

Professional sunbeds come in many different shapes and sizes. Tanning beds can be either horizontal lay-down sunbeds or vertical stand-up units. There are also two different types of UV tanning lamps – low-pressure and high-pressure, that determine the output of UVA and UVB the sunbed emits. At Arizona Tanning, we've invested in some of the most prestigious equipment available on the market, offering two low-pressure lay-down units as well as one low-pressure and one high-pressure stand-up unit.

Know your Skin Type

The golden rule of UV exposure is to never sunburn, and knowing your Skin Type is the best way to help reduce the risk of overexposure to UV light while enjoying the benefits of moderate exposure. At Arizona Tanning, all new clients must complete a Skin Type Questionnaire so that we can determine an exposure schedule that is suited to you.

Indoor tanning lotions

Arizona Tanning is proud to offer an extensive selection of exclusive, high-performance tanning lotions to help you take your tan to the next level. Whether you're purchasing your first professional indoor tanning lotion or you're a seasoned pro looking to add to your collection, we've got you covered.

  • I have psoriasis and/or eczema. Will tanning help me?
Many cosmetic dermatologists use UV exposure in their offices to treat cosmetic skin conditions such as psoriasis and eczema using a treatment they call phototherapy. Scientists have stated that UV light is nearly 100% effective for many dermatologic conditions and that sunbeds are very convenient sources of UV rays for patients who cannot otherwise afford the rigorous travel, time, and monetary commitments necessary to visit the dermatologist.
  • Do I still need to wear sunscreen if I tan before my vacation?
At Arizona Tanning, we're all about being sun safe. That means, even if you've built up a base tan before heading out on vacation, we still reccommend using SPF on your trip. When someone with a base tan uses sunscreen outdoors, they essentially multiply the effectiveness of that sunscreen. Over the course of four weeks, the average indoor tanner is able to build up a natural SPF factor of about 4. An SPF 15 sunscreen applied to the skin of a person whose base tan has already made him/her 4x more resilent to the sun will actually create a net SPF of 60. Natural SPF x SPF of sunscreen = net SPF. So, while we still highly reccommend wearing sunscreen during your vacation, indoor tanning before you leave will make your sunscreen approximately 4x more effective.
  • Is UV radiation radioactive?
All light emitted from the sun is actually energy. Energy waves are sometimes referred to as “radiation” and UV light is sometimes called “UV radiation”. The terms “radiation” and “radioactive” often get mixed up, but they are not the same. Radiation simply means energy being discharged. Radioactivity is a special kind of radiation but is not related to UV light. Radioactive sources such as nuclear power plants and nuclear bombs create massive amounts of energy by breaking down atoms. UV radiation, on the other hand, is relatively low in energy and does not break down and emit ions.
  • Will I get "cooked" in the tanning bed?
There is a common tanning myth that leads people to believe that a person gets “cooked” while in a tanning bed, and that simply isn’t true. Ultraviolet light used in indoor tanning beds does not enter the body, in fact, it only penetrates about 2mm into the skin. In 2003, Smart Tan proved that tanning beds are unable to cook anything by having salon owners place raw meat in a tanning bed. After several hours in the UV bed, the meat was – not shockingly, uncooked. The conclusion? UV does not cook flesh!
  • Do tanning packages expire?
All minute packages are valid for 2 years following the purchase date.
  • How old do I have to be to tan?
As per government regulations, Arizona Tanning requires all tanners using UV equipment to be at least 18 years of age. We encourage clients under the age of 18 to check out our sunless tanning options.
  • How long do I need to wait between tanning sessions?
Arizona Tanning requires a minimum of 24 hours between UV tanning sessions. The tanning process doesn’t stop when you leave the sunbed – your skin needs downtime to properly develop colour. As recommended by the FDA, a 24-hour resting period between sessions will allow you to maximize your colour and skin care.
  • Where are you located?
We're located at #234 390 Baseline Road in Sherwood Park, Alberta. You'll find us in Sherwood Towne Square in between the Home Depot and Average Joes.
